Welcome to our Term 4 inquiry investigation What’s Cooking. We will be finding out all about different types of foods and how we use them. Some questions we might ask could be,
•What makes a balanced diet?
•What do we need to know about the foods we eat?
•What foods do we need to eat often and which foods should we only eat occasionally?
•What are the 5 food groups?
•What fruits and vegetables can we grow?
•What are some fruits and vegetables that I didn’t even know about?
•In which ways can we use different fruits/vegetables in our cooking?
Click on the link below to play a fun game about where our food comes from.
For the first two weeks of term 2 we have been going to swimming lessons. Our lessons have been at the Monash Aquatic Centre which is a fantastic facility. We learnt many things about swimming strokes, being safe in the water and having fun with friends at the pool. Look at our smiling faces when we are swimming. It was great fun and we would like to say a big thankyou to all our parents who came to watch and to help us. THANKS!

Welcome to the 1/2PW class blog . We are so excited to be back at school and into the swing of all things St Toms. We have been spending time getting to know each other and sharing stories about ourselves.
We have also been looking at groups we belong to including our family group, sporting groups, friendship groups and community groups. Our focus has been to identify what makes these groups work really well. It has been interesting to explore all the things we have to do to belong to a group and what responsibilities all the members of different groups have.
We are continuing to discuss the responsibilities we have in our own community.
Interesting Dinosaur Facts
Literacy group instructions:
Read through the power point about dinosaurs.
Leave a comment on the blog about the power point.
You need to comment on:
-something you found interesting,
-something that you are wondering about,
-and write an interesting fact that you already know about dinosaurs.
We were very surprised to hear a knock on the classroom door early on Thursday morning. We were even more surprised to see Pippa holding the AFL PREMIERSHIP CUP! Can you believe that she had the AFL cup at her house for a “sleep-over”? We were so glad that she brought it to school to share with us. Can you spot the Hawthorn supporters cheering with the cup?

Read the power point about Australian Dinosaurs. After you have finished type a comment about what you learnt or what you found interesting. You could then type what you are wondering about dinosaurs. If you have time, write down the name you would give to a dinosaur if you found a dinosaur bone.
At the moment Grade1/2 have being doing Science Experiments every Tuesday. So far we have done a lot about the Water Cycle and we also did another one on making a rainbow.
These are some of our findings.
Rainbow Colours Experiment
On Tuesdays Mrs Beary is doing experiments and one was making a rainbow. We used detergent, blue, red and yellow dye, milk and a bowl. Mrs Beary put 3 drops of dye (blue, yellow and red) into the bowl with the milk and all the colours went to the side. Then Mrs Beary put detergent in the middle and the colours mixed together. The colours were blue, red, yellow, green, purple and orange; it looked like marbling.
I learnt how rainbow colours are made. I also learnt that blue and red make purple, yellow and blue make green and yellow and red make orange.
Making a Cloud Experiment
On Tuesday we made a cloud. We needed hairspray for pollution, a jar to put hot water in and a lid to hold the ice. We put the hot water in, the ice on the lid, then we put the lid on the jar. We waited for about a minute. We took off the lid, sprayed the hairspray in the jar and then quickly put on the lid. There was a cloud in the jar, then we took off the lid and the cloud rose out of the jar because hot air rises.
Making Rainbow Colours
First we put milk in the bowl and it had fat in it. Then we put detergent in and that got rid of the fat on the milk. Then we got some red, yellow and blue dye, then we put them in. We mixed red and blue to make purple. Then we mixed red and yellow to make orange and we mixed blue and yellow to make green. Then we left it for awhile and it went grey.
Making Rainbow Colours
You need a bowl, detergent, milk, food colours red, blue and yellow. First pour the milk into the bowl. Now add the food colouring to the bowl. After that you add the detergent with an ear bud. Watch the dye mix together and look at the 3 primary colours change into secondary colours.
